How to Get rid of an Object in Photoshop – edit real estate photos

Unwanted items should not take any part in photography. This article will guide you on how to remove an object in Photoshop using easy tools and techniques.

When taking a picture, all of you may have encountered a case of an unrelated object stuck to the frame, don’t you? Instead of taking over and over to get a picture you want, today, I will guide you on how to remove an object in Photoshop 2020.

How to Remove an Object in Photoshop and Keep Background

We will delete the trashbin in the image below for our example to teach you how to remove an object in Photoshop CS6:

When you learn how to get rid of an object in Photoshop, you should minimize editing on the original picture. Instead, right-click on the Background in the right bar and then choose Duplicate Layer to create a new background layer.

Next, you press the plus button below in the right corner to create a new blank layer. You can also create a new layer by pressing Ctrl + Shift + N on your keyboard (or Cmd + Shift + N on Mac). We will use the Clone Stamp tool on this newly created layer to learn how to remove unwanted objects in Photoshop app.

To use the Clone Stamp tool, click on the seal icon in the left toolbar, as shown below:

To learn how to remove unwanted objects in Photoshop 2020 more manageable, you should pay attention to adjust some parameters when using this tool. Specifically, the Size should be 100px; the Hardness should be 0%; check the Align box; and in the Sample field, choose Current & Below.

After choosing to use the Clone Stamp

, hold down the Alt key on the keyboard and then select a point to clone. Next, click on the area you want to delete. You should click the mouse slowly so that you can press Ctrl + Z (or Cmd + Z on Mac) to go back to the previous state more quickly if there is a mistake.

In our example, you can see the red and the white is near each other. In this case, you can hold Alt and then select the area where two colors meet in the left corner to copy over the part you need to edit. 

However, when copying, the color order should be inverted. To invert the order, click the “Toggle the Clone Source” button and then click on the “Flip horizontal” button to rotate the clone 180 degrees.

Next, we need to know how to remove big objects in Photoshop by deleting the body of the trash. Continue to use the Clone Stamp tool. Hold Alt, select a point on the road and then click on the part to delete until you are happy.

At the bottom of the trash can, you can see that the stone frame is partially hidden. To reconstruct this part, you must first turn on the ruler by clicking on the View menu and then choosing Rulers.

After the Ruler bar is displayed, press and hold down the mouse on the vertical ruler, then drag it to the edge of the stone frame. This will help us in reconstructing the structure.

Now, you need to know how to remove an object in Photoshop using Lasso tool. Right-click on the Lasso Tool on the left toolbar and then select the Polygonal Lasso Tool. Note that if you choose the Lasso Tool, you will draw any path, and the Polygonal Lasso Tool will draw a straight line.

After that, click on three points on the image to draw a triangle to shape the edge of the stone frame.

For the part of the triangle just drawn, because the sampling area has a tiny space, please uncheck the Align part in the parameters bar of the Clone Stamp tool. Besides, lower the Size of the brush before you proceed to delete the part. 

After creating the rock frame, press Ctrl + D (Cmd + D) on your keyboard to remove the triangle part that we made earlier.

With the legs of the trash can, you can take samples right next to it and then clone.

For the foot of the trash can, take a sample from the stone next to it. At this point, you have successfully how to remove an unwanted object in Photoshop.

Additional adjustments to create realism 

When cloning the foot of the trash can, you may notice that the stone frame will not have a border on the part we just cloned. To fix this problem, continue to use the Clone Stamp tool and take the sample from the edge on the right side.

For easy adjustments to increase the realism of the edited image. You will work on a layer that is composed of all existing layers. To do this, press Ctrl (Cmd) + Shift + Alt + E on your keyboard.

In this adjustment, we will use the Patch Tool. You can access it by right-clicking on the Spot Healing Brush Tool and then choosing Patch Tool.

This tool is relatively easy to use. You just need to draw on the image a segment that needs to be edited. Then, drag it to any area to get the copy from that part to fill the position we selected initially. The app will automatically edit, correct color and opacity later to best match.

Do the same with the rest of the image, such as roadside, road surface, stone, etc. Once completed, you will get the results as shown below. Good luck!
